Sion airport sits on the floor of the Rhône valley, in the heart of the Valais. It is one of the canton's few registered aerodromes, and the air gateway to the resorts above the plain: Crans-Montana, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Anzère, Thyon. From Sion, Zermatt is one short further hop.
When to go
Year-round demand: skiing from December to April up to the resorts above, hiking and golf in summer. Winter Saturdays concentrate the rotations, when the Valais motorway absorbs every resort's traffic at once.
